Description

In these in-person sessions, we will explore the practice of formal mindfulness meditation. In sessions of approximately 50 minutes, we will offer guided meditations where we will establish our attention on an anchor, whether it be the breath, bodily sensations, or sounds, from which we will gradually open ourselves to all the rest of our experiences, both sensory and mental, bringing a gentle and kind attetion to our experiences.

 

In mindfulness meditation, we strengthen our ability to observe our experiences without being swept away by them. Although it's inevitable that we'll get lost time and again in the stream of thoughts and emotions, it becomes increasingly easier to get out of the stream, observing and being with our experiences. It's like clinging to a branch while floating down a river. We hold on, and from there we see the river continuing to flow, but for a few moments we remain still, observing everything as it is. Then, inevitably, due to habit we let go of the branch again, and get lost for some moments again, but gradually we strengthen our ability to interrupt that stream and get more connected to the dimension of our lives that observes and knows experience, where we can feel calm and peaceful amidst different kinds of experiences
