Mindfulness meditation for chronic pain

In these sessions, we will use mindfulness meditation to better cope with chronic pain.

To apply mindfulness to these situations we start using the breath to calm the mind and ground ourselves, and from there, address the pain bringing a kind attention to our bodily sensations and working with them through a guided meditation.

It is a gradual process to change our relationship with pain, by establishing anchors in pleasant or neutral sensations in the body, and then approach the area of pain, exploring it, feeling it fully, and getting to know it in detail.

By allowing ourselves to feel the painful area, we disrupt the habitual reaction of wanting to flee from the pain and open up the possibility of relating to it in a different way.

With practice we develop the ability to reduce the negative thoughts and feelings surrounding that pain, and in this way, we are also able to reduce the tension around it, even influencing how we experience it.

Through mindfulness, we expand our awareness of our inner life, and even when we are not able to directly influence the intensity of physical pain, we can place this pain within a broader sense of ourselves, making it feel less intense.

With this meditation, we seek to cultivate a gentle and kind attitude toward our own pain, moving away from reactive responses that ultimately worsen our experience of physical pain.
